VR @ Wellandport

Attention all gamers! If you love Virtual Reality (VR) gaming try out the Oculus Quest 2 headset at our Wellandport branch. Available games include: Beat Saber, Rec Room, Gorilla Tag and Demeo. First come, first served. For in-house use only.

Calling All Artists

Feature your work on our Art Cube in Smithville. December to February will feature monochrome artwork, using only black and white to emphasize form, contrast, and the absence of color. Apply to be our next artist by visiting westlincolnlibrary.ca/art.html and submitting our online form.

Child Passenger Safety Presentation - Smithville Branch

Local Veteran's Week Celebration - Smithville Branch

On November 8th at 4:00pm we will be joined by West Lincoln Historical Society member and local author, Joanne McClaren, for a fascinating presentation profiling local veterans that served in World War I & II. Drop-in.

1,000 Books Before Kindergarten - All Branches

Ongoing
Attention parents and caregivers: join this growing movement to read every child 1,000 books before kindergarten. Reading to your infant/toddler/child teaches vocabulary, introduces the connection between pictures and words and creates lasting bonds. Register at any Branch to begin your journey. We‘ll keep a log of the number of books read and offer incentives along the way.

Caistorville Crafternoon - Caistorville Branch

Alternating Saturdays @ 2:00pm; November 2 to December 14
Come and spend the afternoon creatively crafting with library staff. Recommended for children ages 8 to 12. Registration required.

Maker Mondays - Smithville Branch

Learn how to create new projects every Maker Monday using our amazing MakerSpace equipment and other STEAM techniques. Recommended for children ages 8 to 12. Registration required.

A 6-week story time program for young children that incorporates movement games alongside early literacy to help develop better physical awareness, improve gross and fine motor skills and learn how to navigate social movement relationships. Nintendo Gaming Competition - Smithville Branch

Saturday December 21 @ 2:00pm
Take home the golden cartridge in this recreation of the 1990 Nintendo (NES) World Championship! Players will challenge each other in speed runs while exploring some of the classic NES games that your parents might have played. The winner will receive exclusive Nintendo collectibles. Countdown Party - Smithville Branch

5, 4, 3, 2, 1... Happy New Year! Stop by for a kid-friendly new year’s party that includes pizza, snacks and refreshments, party games, silly photos, dancing and a super special time capsule corner. Bring an object, drawing or a note containing your thoughts, wishes and goals for the upcoming year to add to the time capsule. Recommended for ages 6-12. Drop-in.

Trans Remembrance Week Screenings - Smithville Branch

Saturday November 16 @ 1:00pm
November 13-20 is Trans Remembrance Week and to honour the memory of those who lost their lives to acts of anti-trans violence we will be presenting a curated selection of short LGBTQ+ films from the National Film Board of Canada (NFB). PFlag Niagara will also be here with an information table and our button maker will be out all day for you to make a PRIDE button in show of support. Drop-in.

Good Food Box

Place your orders for fresh and affordable boxes of produce, either in person at Smithville Branch (cash only) or online at linksforgreenerlearning.org. The deadline for orders is November 13 and December 11, with deliveries being made to Smithville Branch on November 20 and December 18.

Presented by registered dietician Dayna Caves from the Smithville Medical Centre. In recognition of National Diabetes Day we‘ll be looking at diabetes prevention as well as how to eat to keep your blood sugar under control. Registration required.

Painting the Palate - Caistorville Branch

A monthly social art program that explores different types of painting mediums. In November we will be using fabric paint and stencils to create custom fabric bags. Cricut Craft Club - Smithville Branch

The craft club is a 2-hour monthly program that teaches a new project each month to showcase the amazing crafting ability of the Cricut Maker 3. November will feature paper house lanterns, and in December we‘ll be making custom ornaments and gift labels. No experience necessary. Registration required.

Crafting For Christmas - Smithville Branch

Get ready for the holidays in this 3 week crafting series leading up to Christmas. We’ll start by making open-faced scenic tree ornaments, follow it up with magical forest wreaths and finish with a Christmas mason jar centerpiece/mantelpiece stuffed with real greenery for a fresh smell. The Cookbook Clique - Smithville Branch

Have a passion for food? Join the clique! Using a different cookbook every month we’ll challenge ourselves to make something new. In November we’ll be making chicken thighs with sprouts and squash from Dr. Jason Fung’s book, The Diabetes Code Cookbook. In December we’ll be baking salty sweet peanut chews from Jean Paré’s, Company’s Coming: Christmas Gifts from the Kitchen. Registration required. Cost is $10 per person, per program (cash only). Please bring a reusable container large enough to fit two servings.
