1,000 Books Before Kindergarten - All Branches
Ongoing
Attention parents and caregivers: join this growing movement to read every child 1,000 books before kindergarten. Reading 20 books per month to your infant/toddler/child teaches vocabulary, introduces the connection between pictures and words and creates lasting bonds. Register at any branch to begin your journey. We‘ll keep a log of the number of books read and offer incentives along the way.

A 6-week story time program for toddlers that incorporates movement games alongside early literacy to help develop better physical awareness, improve gross and fine motor skills and learn how to navigate social movement relationships. Recommended for ages 3 to 5. Registration required.

Get Baking! teaches teens basic baking skills while making a new, fun and tasty treat each month. In April we’ll be baking fruity chocolate tarts and May’s recipe will have teens making Dunkaroo Dip®. In June we’ll be baking garlic knots with marinara dip. Recommended for teens ages 13 to 17. National Canadian Film Day - Smithville Branch

Join us for popcorn and drinks while we screen the film, "I Like Movies", in which Lawrence, an awkward and anxious 17-year-old cinephile living in Burlington in the early 2000's, believes that he is on the path to a legendary filmmaking career – but at this point, it’s only gotten him as far as a job at the local video store. Emergency Preparedness Week is an opportunity for you to take action to ensure you are prepared to protect yourself, your family and your community during an emergency. Presented by registered dietician Dayna Caves from the Smithville Medical Centre. In April we‘ll be focusing on improving your health span and in May we’ll be taking a look at toddler/preschooler recipes and nutrition. In June we’ll be preparing for next school year by looking at how to pack healthy lunches your child will love. Registration required.

The Cookbook Clique - Smithville Branch

Have a passion for food? Join the clique! Using a different cookbook every month we’ll challenge ourselves to make something new. In April we’ll be baking blackberry maple breakfast cake with maple coconut whipped cream from Plantcakes by Lindsay Sung. In May we’ll be making bacon and onion perogies from The Ultimate Cookbook by Canadian Living, and in June we’ll be making ranch turkey burgers and crispy zucchini fries from Country Living’s Farmhouse Kitchen Cookbook. Registration required. Cost is $10 per person, per program (cash only). Please bring a reusable container large enough to fit two servings.

Income Tax Clinics - Smithville Branch

Get your taxes done for free through the Community Volunteer Income Tax Program (CVITP). People with a modest income and a simple tax situation can get their tax returns done by volunteers for no cost. Registration is open. Clinic dates are available on our website. By appointment only.

The craft club is a 2-hour monthly program that teaches a new project each month to showcase the amazing crafting ability of the Cricut Maker 3 and Cricut Design Space.
